Chrysostomos (Papalambrou) of Myrinae

Bishop Chrysostomos (Papalambrou) was a hierarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He served for many years as a pastor in Charlotte, North Carolina and, as bishop, was briefly an assistant to the Archbishop of Australia and New Zealand.

Life

Chrysostomos Papalambrou was born on the island of Chios. Following graduation from high school there, he studied at the Theological School of Halki, after which he returned to Chios as a priest and a professor at the Parthenagoeo girls' high school. In the course of his service he founded the League of Greek Orthodox Women of Chios.

Fr. Chrysostomos was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite. In 1927 he moved to the United States and undertook assignment in various parishes, eventually assuming the leadership of the Holy Trinity Church of Charlotte.

On September 6, 1960, Fr. Chrysostomos was elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as bishop of the titular see of Myrinae and assigned as an auxiliary to Archbishop Ezekiel. He was consecrated to the episcopate on October 2, 1960 by Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America.

In 1962, Bishop Chrysostomos retired and returned to Charlotte to live. He died on January 10, 1988.
