Kleopas II of Thessaliotis

His Eminence Kleopas II of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersala was the metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersala under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The metropolis is located in Thessaly in central Greece. Metr. Kleopas was metropolitan from 1974 to 1999.

Life

Metr. Kleopas was born in 1913 in Antalya, in southwestern Turkey. He entered the Holy Orders when he was ordained a deacon in 1937. He was ordained a priest in 1945. He studied at the Theological School of the University of Athens, graduating in 1950.

In 1951, he served as a preacher for the Metropolis of Messenia and then served from 1952 to 1958 as Chancellor of the Metropolis of Trikki. Father Kleopas served also as a professor at the ecclesiastical schools in Kalamata and Trikala in Greece.

Fr. Kleopas was elected to the episcopate in 1974 by the Synod of Bishops of the Church of Greece and was enthroned as the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersala. He served the metropolis for nearly thirty years before his repose on September 5, 1999.
