Innocent (Vasilyev) of Vilnius
His Eminence Most Reverend Innocent (Vasilyev) of Vilnius is the Archbishop of Vilnius and Lithuania of the Church of Russia.
Life
Archbishop Innocent was born Valery Fiodorovich Vasilyev on October 9, 1947. Upon his tonsure as a monk, Valery was given the name Innocent. After having been ordained a deacon and then a priest, Fr. Innocent was consecrated to the episcopate on January 26, 1992 as Bishop of Khabarovsk. On July 18, 1995, Bp. Innocent was transferred as Bishop of Dmitrov, a vicariate of the Diocese of Moscow. On October 18, 1996, he was transferred as Bishop of Chita and Trans-Baikal. On October 5, 1999, he was transferred as Bishop of Korsun to lead the Diocese of Russian Orthodox churches in Western Europe. On February 25, 2002, Bishop Innocent was raised to the dignity of archbishop.
On December 24, 2010, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church transferred Abp. Innocent to lead the see of Lithuania as Archbishop of Vilnius and Lithuania.
