At age 19 he was baptized an Orthodox Christian, and after completing his secular studies entered the theological school of the Eparchy of Volgograd in 2004, graduating a year later. On August 15, 2005, Igor was tonsured a monk at the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Astrakhan with the name Anthony, after St. Anthony the Great.

In September 2005 Monk Anthony was ordained to the diaconate by Archbishop Jonah (Karpukhin) of Astrakhan and Enotaevka. A month later he was ordained to the priesthood, remaining part of the brotherhood of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist. In March 2013 the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church established the Akhtubinsk Eparchy and elected Hieromonk Anthony as the first ruling bishop of the new eparchy. Several days later Fr. Anthony was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

On May 7, 2013, Bishop-elect Anthony was consecrated to the episcopacy in Moscow, Russia, by Patriarch Cyril (Gundyayev) of Moscow and All Rus'.
