His Eminence Agathonikos (Filippotis) of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki was the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The metropolis is located in southeastern Attica in Greece. He was metropolitan from 1974 to 2004.

Life

Metr. Agathonikos (Filippotis) was born in 1918 in Pyrgos on the island of Tinos located near the geographical center of the Cyclades island complex in the Aegean Sea. He studied theology during his post secondary education and entered the Holy Orders in 1942 when he was ordained a deacon. In 1949, he was ordained a priest.

In 1974, Father Agathonikos was elected to the episcopate by the Synod of Bishops of the Church of Greece and then was consecrated Metropolitan of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki. He was succeeded as metropolitan following his retirement in 2004 by Nicholas (Hatzinikolaou).
