Pangratios (Dubas) of Scopelos
His Grace Bishop Pangratios (Dubas) of Scopelos is an auxiliary bishop to the Metropolis of Mexico, titular bishop of Scopelos.
Life
Petro Dubas was born on July 12, 1955, in Holohory, Zolochiv region, province of Lviv, Ukraine, to Oleksij and Anna Dubas. He served in the armed forces for 1973-75, and after mandatory military service he served as a cantor at St. George's Church in Holohory.
From there he was advised to enter Leningrad Theological Acaedemy, where he studied from 1983 to 1991. After his graduation, he was dispatched to serve under His Eminence Metropolitan Philaret of Kyiv and Halych, Patriarchal Exarch of Ukraine (Moscow Patriarchate), who assigned him to Volyn Theological Seminary in Lutsk as a teacher. Later the rector of the seminary, Bishop Bartholomew, the ruling hierarch of the Lutsk and Volyn Diocese, assigned him as instructor of Church Slavonic, in charge of the library, and assistant to a seminary provost.
On August 3, 1993, Petro arrived in the United States at the invitation of Bishop Vsevolod of Scopelos, the primate of the Ukrainain Orthodox Church in America under the Ecumenical Patriarchate. On August 5, 1993, Metropolitan Athenagoras (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America) tonsured him a monk with the name Pangratios after St. Pancras (Pancratius) of Taormina (July 9), in Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in New York. On December 12, 1993, Bishop Vsevolod ordained him to the diaconate at the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and on December 19, to the priesthood at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New York, where he was also assigned as the parish priest. On October 2, 1994, Bp. Vsevolod elevated Fr. Pangratios to the rank of igumen at the St. John of Sucheva Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Fr. Pangratios taught pastoral theology at St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Seminary from 1995-1997.
On July 28, 1996, Bp. Vsevolod elevated Fr. Pangratios to the rank of archimandrite at Holy Protection Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania. On March 1, 1997, Archim. Pangratios was assigned as parish priest of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois.
In July 2012, Archimandrite Pangratios was elected to the episcopacy as Bishop of Scopelos, auxiliary bishop to the Metropolis of Mexico by the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and was consecrated a bishop in Mexico City on September 9, 2012.
