The Orthodox Archdiocese of Ohrid (Macedonian: Православна Охридска Архиепископија) was an autonomous Orthodox church whose primate was confirmed by the Church of Serbia. It was established in 2002 when Metropolitan Jovan of Veles and Povardarje, part of the canonically unrecognized Macedonian Orthodox Church (MOC), accepted the Niš agreement.[1] On May 24, 2005, during the Feast of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church granted autonomy to the archdiocese.
Following a series of talks in 2022, the autonomous archdiocese under the Serbian church was merged with the MOC, and on 5 June 2022 the Macedonian Orthodox Church was recognized as fully autocephalous by the Serbian patriarch,[2] which was recognised by many Orthodox churches, including the Patriarchate of Constantinople,[3] regularizing its canonical status.
Holy Synod of bishops
The Holy Synod of bishops was constituted on December 23, 2003 in the monastery "Saint John Chrysostom".
