Gregory (Charkiewicz) of Bialy

His Grace, Most Reverend Gregory (Charkiewicz) of Bialy is a Vicar of the Diocese of Warsaw and Bialy of the Church of Poland. He is responsible for the Orthodox monasteries in Poland.

Life

Bishop Gregory was born in Bialystok, Poland on April 12, 1964. In 1979, the future Bp. Gregory enrolled in Orthodox Spiritual Seminary in Warsaw. After graduating, he continued his studies for two years at the Higher Orthodox Spiritual Seminary at Monastery of St. Onufry in Jableczna. In 1987, he began studies at the Theological Academy in Leningrad, USSR, from which he graduated in 1991 with a Master of Arts degree.

In 1989, he was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Sawa of Bialystok-Gdansk. In 1992, he was ordained a priest and tonsured a monk with the name Gregory. In 1996, Fr. Gregory was appointed an assistant in the Department of Practical Theology at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw and as an instructor of Liturgics and Old Church Slavonic in Iconographical School in Bielsk Podlaski.

On May 12, 1998, Fr. Gregory was consecrated Bishop of Bielsk, a vicar bishop of the Diocese of Warsaw and Bialy with responsibility for the Orthodox monasteries in Poland with the title rector. Bp. Gregory's title was changed to Bishop of Suprasl in 2008. His current title is Bishop of Bialy.
