Chrysostomos of Kition

The Most Reverend Chrysostomos (Mahairiotis) of Kition, is the Metropolitan of the Bishopric of Kition of the Church of Cyprus.

Life

Metropolitan Chrysostomos was born on June 4, 1938 in the village of Paliometocho, Cyprus. In 1951, the young Chrysostomos joined the Monastery of Machaira as a novice. He attended the Samuel's Commercial School and the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia. He was ordained a deacon in 1955.

Dn. Chrysostomos entered the Law Faculty of the University of Athens and graduated in 1966. After completing his law studies, Dn. Chrysostomos continued his education at the Theology Faculty of the University, graduating in 1970. After completing his education he returned to the Monastery of Machaira in Cyprus.

At the monastery he was ordained to the priesthood, elevated to the dignity of archimandrite, and appointed protekdikos (counselor) of the Monastery of Machaira. On October 24, 1973, Archim. Chrysostomos was elected Bishop of Kition. His consecration and enthronement were two days later, on October 26.
