Talk:Evagrius Ponticus
Would Evagrius be considered either a Church Father or a Desert Father? Also, should the article be listed as Evagrius of Pontus or Evagrius Ponticus, and the others be redirects, or should it stay as is? --magda 12:41, 2 May 2005 (CDT)
- 1. Both, likely.
- 2. "Evangrius Ponticus" is the form most common in scholarly English works, so that's what I'd name the article.

I agree with Fr. Dn. Andrew, on both counts. Especially because new evidence and studies (fr. gabriel Bunge, Fr. Jeremy Driscoll, and Augustine Casiday) on Evagrius seem to exonorate him from the actual heresies traditionally ascribed to him. Valuable as Guilaumont's work may have been his work is being superseded.

Major Edit Proposal
A lot more can be said about Evagrius and it just so happens that I am doing my M.Div. thesis on him at Saint Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary under direction of Fr. John Behr (Dean). I would like to significantly add to this article to make the person Evagrius accessible as well as his teaching - including the controversial aspects of his doctrine. Unless significant objections to this proposal should arise I will start my efforts.
