Also, in 1969, he joined the brotherhood of the Kykkos Monastery, receiving the name Nikiforos. On [[April 6]], 1969, he was [[ordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]] by Archbishop [[Makarios III (Mouskos) of Cyprus|Makarios III]].
In 1970, Dn. Nikiforos entered the Law Faculty of the Aristotle University of [[Thessalonica]]. After graduating from university in 1974, Dn. Nikiforos entered the Theological School of the University of Athens, from which he graduated in 1978. On [[September 8]], 1979, Dn. Nikiforos was ordained to the [[priest]]hood by Abp. [[Chrysostomos I of Cyprus|Chrysostomos I]] and was elevated to the rank of [[archimandrite]].
After his elevation in 1979, Archim. Nikiforos served in a number of church positions over the ensuing years. He was a teacher at the Seminary of the [[Apostle Barnabas]] for six years. He served as President of the [[ecclesiastical court|Ecclesiastical Court]] of the Church of Cyprus for five years, and as Secretary of the [[Holy Synod]] of the Church of Cyprus.
