His Beatitude '''Alexander III (Tahan) of Antioch''' was Patriarch of Antioch and all the East from 1928 to 1958. Patr. Alexander was instrumental in the revival of [[church]]es and [[monastery|monasteries]] within the patriarchate. He also moved for the revival of the [[St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology (Tripoli, Lebanon)|Patriarchal Theological School]] at Balamand.
Patr. Alexander, after consultations with the hierarchs of the other autocephalous [[church]]es, on [[May 31]], 1958, authorized His Eminence Metropolitan [[Antony (Bashir) of New York|Antony (Bashir)]] to establish the [[Western Rite]] in the [[Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America|Antiochian Archdiocese]] in the United States.
Patr. Alexander reposed on [[June 17]], 1958.
