He was born George L'vovich Chemodakov on [[June 2]], 1961, in Sydney, Australia.
In 1980 he entered [[Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary (Jordanville, New York)|Holy Trinity Seminary]] in Jordanville, New York, from which he graduated in 1984 and where he remained as an instructor of Russian culture and other subjects through 1989. In 1989 he was appointed cell attendant to [[Vitaly (Ustinov) of New York|Metropolitan Vitaly]] and then to [[Hilarion (Kapral) of Sydney|Bishop Hilarion of Manhattan]]. He continued in this obedience until 1996, when he was [[tonsure]]d a monk. On the Fifth Sunday of Lent of 1996, he was ordained hierodeacon by [[Laurus (Skurla) of New York|Archbishop Laurus of Syracuse and Holy Trinity]]. In the same year on the feast of the Entry of our Lord into Jerusalem, he was ordained hieromonk by [[Vitaly (Ustinov) of New York|Metropolitan Vitaly]]. On the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, he was consecrated bishop of Brisbane, vicar of the Australian and New Zealand diocese, but then was quickly transferred to the Manhattan [[cathedra ]] and appointed deputy secretary of the Synod of Bishops. In October 2001 he was appointed secretary of the Synod of Bishops and in 2004 as member of the Commission for the Conducting of the Fourth All-Diaspora Council.
