The Vailije (Popovic) was elected as Metropolitan of Banja Luka in 1907 by the [[Holy Synod]] of the [[Ecumenical Patriarchate elected him Metropolitan of Banja luka in 1907]]. He was [[ordination|ordained]] by [[Archbishop]] Evgenije of Sarajevo and Metropoliten Metropolitan of Dabro-Bosna, ; St. Petar, Metropolitan of Hercegovina and later of Dabro-Bosna, ; and Metropolitan Ilarion of Zvornik-Tuzla. Metropolitan Evgenije prceeded preceded him as Mtropolitan Metropolitan of Banja Luka.

He and his flock were accepted into the [[Church of Serbia|Serbian Orthodox Church ]] in 1920, which a move the Ecumenical Patriarchat Patriarchate approved in 1922.

Metr. Vasilije died in 1937. His [[relics ]] are in the [[Cathedral Church ]] of the Holy Trinity in Banja Luka.
