Re: Publishing article
::: '''As I understand it''', the fact that you commissioned the icon does not mean that you hold the copyright to the icon itself. Contracted works are not "Work for hire" under US law and there would need to be an ''explicit assignment'' of copyright by the author of the work. Purchasing a physical copy does not automatically give you all rights. However, it does give you some rights, and I don't anticipate any problem posting a photo of the image, particularly one that is not high resolution—I have in mind for example [http://artlawjournal.com/visual-art-ownership |this article] from the Art Law Journal.

::: I was more concerned with where the illustrations come from though -- are they from a published work?
:::: I see. Well, the artist is Elena Tsytkova and she has given me copyright also because we both worked together in designing the content of the icon. I will get her to write a signed letter confirming this arrangement and copyright is shared equally between us. Then I can post a scan of that on the page as well to remove all doubt. All the illustrations are from the icon itself (see the complete icon view image at bottom of the page created. No image I have used has previously existed in any form (I mean the image design by another artist, not the artwork itself since as I say this is original and our own design) to my knowledge. This is a unique original work. Thank you Father for your diligence and strictness on copyright observance, for being as thorough as this protects me an Elena if someone should try to use what is not theirs to use. ::::: PS. How do I do the code for references 1 and 4 on the page (the journal reference of The Orthodox Word, and the book by John Noble) because they do not show up properly but I have checked the Wikipedia instructions and they are according to their prescribed format. So I am not sure what I am doing wrong... and also we live in Canada. Is Canadian law the controlling legal concern or the law as it is in the United States, since the website is hosted in the USA?
