Searching on the word 'virtures' brings up over fifty articles, many about saints, that may include a clue for your search. Dear Marie, I can not advise you the exact volume of this story (in English) or which area it has come from however I can identify potential "Sources" where the story would have come from. The "Desert Father" stories usually come from what is called (phonetic of the Greek) a "Gerontikon". if you know which monastic community this monk belonged to then it is a case of contacting them and asking for their Gerontikon ... otherwise, you can sift through a church library if they have any translations of the Gerontikon(s) from Mount Athos (many volumes of these).
