Troparion (also tropar; plural troparia) is a short, poetic hymn of the Orthodox Church that commemorates a particular saint or event. The troparion of a feast is sung for the first time in the daily cycle just before the dismissal at vespers and, thus, is often called the Dismissal Hymn (or in Greek apolytikion) of such feast. Troparia also make up the stanzas of the odes of the canons sung at matins.
