His Eminence '''Timotheos (Evangelinidis)''' was [[Metropolitan ]] of [[w:Rhodes |Rhodes]] from 1947 to 19511949. Before that, he was Metropolitan of the [[Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia|Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Australia and New Zealand ]] between 1931-1947.
Succeeding The Metropolitan Christoforos, in 1931 Timotheos (Evangelinidis) was elected as born on the second Metropolitan island of Australia and New Zealand. Coincidentally, he arrived in Australia on Australia Day [[w:Mytilene|Mytilene]] ([[January 26w:Lesvos|Jan 26Lesvos]]), 1932in 1880.
Succeeding Metropolitan [[Christoforos (Knitis) of Australia and New Zealand|Christoforos]], in 1931 Timotheos had was elected as the distinction second Metropolitan of having the longest reign within AustralasiaAustralia and New Zealand. Coincidentally, a distinction he held until Archbishop Stylianos' reign of 32 years to date arrived in [[w:Australia|Australia]] on [[w:Australia Day|Australia Day]] (1974-present[[January 26|Jan 26]]), 1932.
Metropolitan Timotheos had the distinction of having the longest reign within Australasia, a distinction he held until 1990, being eclipsed during the reign of [[Archbishop]] [[Stylianos (Harkianakis) of Australia|Stylianos]] (1974-present). He presided over the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Australia and New Zealand until his 1947 election as Metropolitan of Rhodes. In June of 1949, Metropolitan Timothy was elected [[Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America|Archbishop of North and South America]], as successor to Archbishop [[Athenagoras I (Spyrou) of Constantinople|Athenagoras]] who had been chosen as Ecumenical Patriarch earlier in the year. He served in this capacity until 1951However, when the Metropolitan suffered a series of heart attacks prior to assuming the post and was forced to resign before he could assume the throne of the Archdiocese. He was succeeded by permitted to continue as Metropolitan Spyridonof Rhodes, where he died in October 1949.
