Theodore Koumarianos was born in 1953 in Volos, a port city in Thessaly, Greece. After graduating from the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Thessalonica, he continued his education at the Theological School of the University of Athens. Graduating from the Theological School, he entered the Holy Orders. As a priest, Father Theoklitos held a number of positions including Chancellor of the Metropolis of Demetrias, Director of the Ecclesiastical Boarding School of Volos, and spokesman for the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.

In 1999, Fr. Theoklitos was elected on October 14 to the episcopate by the Synod of Bishops of the Church of Greece and was consecrated the metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersala[1].
