- It's most often spelled protosyngellos in English sources I've seen, probably because that's roughly how it's pronounced. (That's the spelling used, for instance, in the Antiochian Archdiocese of N.A.) Also, it's neither English nor Greek, but rather a Latinization of a modern Greek pronunciation of a Byzantine Greek word. The question really is what is the most common Latinization of this word in English sources.
