New Church in Victoria first of its kind for Australia

Pistveo - The Archdiocese has announced that the foundations, for a new Church dedicated to St Lazarus, have been laid as part of a Grant/sponsorship by the Cemetery of Frankston/Dandenong. They have given an area of this cemetery to the GO Church including a grant of $100,000 to create a 'first of its kind' in Australia - where an Orthodox Church will be inside a Cemetery and the area around it will be for the burial of Orthodox Christians. Since the Australian pages are your baby, I prefer letting you know so that you can do your research and then update all the relevant Australian pages according to what you think is best ... have fun. --Vasiliki 17:02, February 24, 2008 (PST)

In Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, there is a Greek Orthodox Church, and surrounding it are areas set apart for the burial of Orthodox Christians. In the area set aside for clergy and hierarchy, Bishop Gibran of the Antiochian Orthodox Church is interred as well as Greek Orthodox hierarchs. So it's not quite clear how the Frankston initiative is a "first of its kind" for Australia. chrisg 25 Feb 2007 12:15 (AEDT)
To me it was ...no need to be rude. Its a first of its kind for Victoria then :P Vasiliki 18:02, February 24, 2008 (PST)
Sounds like a much needed initiative for the Greek Orthodox faithful in Victoria - and long overdue!
The amount of research I can do is, at best, limited (I'm several hundred kilometres from Victoria), so all I'd be able to find would probably be what you've just put on this talk page. The fact that it's at a fairly early stage means that it could go into a/the Recent News section of this page - not sure where else it could go until it's operational (when it would go into the parishes article)
(Off Topic - They've both got rather cliche'd names, IMHO - Rookwood has St Athanasios, now St Lazarus? Talk about unoriginal! :P) — by Pιsτévο talk complaints at 00:13, February 25, 2008 (PST)
