[[Image:MotherGabriliaJohn Shahovskoy.jpg|100px|left]]His Eminence the Most Reverend '''[[Gabrielia John (PapayannisShahovskoy)of San Francisco|Gerontissa Gabrielia]]''' John (1897-1992Shahovskoy), also known as '''GavriliaArchbishop of San Francisco]]''', was one of the many émigrés from the Russian civil war who entered a 20th century saintly Greek [[monastic]] life in the Orthodox Church and became a diocesan [[nunbishop]]in the United States. Born After first being [[consecration|consecrated]] Bishop of Brooklyn in Constantinople on October 2/15the American [[OCA|Metropolia]], 1897 to Helias he was elected Bishop of San Francisco and Victoria Papayanni(s), was the fourth Western America and last child of the family. She went to England [[Archbishop]] in 1938 to train 1961, a position he held until his retirement in chiropody and physiotherapy, returning to Greece 1973; he resumed active ministry again in 1945 and opening a psychiatry clinic. In 1954, after the repose of her mother1975, she travelled to India and worked with the poorest of the poorfinally retired in 1979.

In 1959, she went to [[Monastery]] Abp John's work in the World Council of Mary and Martha Churches in the Central Committee between 1954-66 developed contacts that would be instrumental in Bethany, Palestine, to become a nun, and she was told, for a prayer rule, to follow the Gospels re-establishment of canonical relations between the Metropolia and the writings [[Church of St. John ClimacusRussia]], ultimately resulting in the original Byzantine Greek. In 1963, travelling to France and America, she returned to Greece and was tonsured to the Small Schema by Elder granting of [[Amphilochios (Makris)|Amphilochiosautocephaly]] on Patmos, then returned to India, working with Fr the Metropolia as the [[Lazarus (Moore)Orthodox Church in America]].

In 1992, having gone to While in retirement he remained active in Russian literary and ecumenical circles. Archbishop John was the author of many mission fields books and finally returned to found a hesychastarion in Greece, she received articles. He often employed the Great Schema from Fr Dionysios pen name of Little St''Strannik'' in his writings. Anne's SketeHe died on [[May 30]], Mount Athos.
