It is headed by the Ecumenical Patriarch, who has the status of ''primus inter pares'' ("first among equals") among the world's Orthodox bishops. The current Ecumenical Patriarch is His All-Holiness [[Bartholomew I (Archontonis) of Constantinople|Bartholomew I]], Archbishop of Constantinople.
