Born Constantine Nikolaevich Wendland in 1909, Bp. John was named the Patriarchal Exarch of the Russian Exarchate of North America with the title of Metropolitan on [[August 3]], 1963. He was recalled to the Soviet Union on [[July 10]], 1967. Metr. John was assisted by Bishop [[Dositheus (Ivanchenko) of New York|Dositheus (Ivanchenko)]] who was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] [[bishop]] on [[April 17]], 1966. Metr. John reposed in 1989.
