Coptic icon of Abba Samuel the Confessor, Abbot of Qalamon Monastery (7th century AD). He is always depicted with one of his eyes enucleated, as a result of his sufferings for the Coptic Orthodox faith.
St. Samuel the Confessor was born c. 597 AD in the city of Daklube, Egypt.
