Born in 1920 in Kafr-el-Zayat, Egypt, the future Archbishop attended the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. In 1940, he was [[ordination|ordained]] to the [[diaconate]], and this was followed in 1952 by his ordination to the [[priest]]hood.
After serving for a period as a [[parish]] priest, he was assigned as a [[Vicar]]-General in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 1954. He was elected as In 1996, during the interregnum period between the repose of Pope and Patriarch [[ArchbishopParthenios III (Koinidis) of Alexandria|Parthenios III]] of Johannesburg and Pretoria in 1968, and was his [[consecration Petros VII (Papapetrou) of a bishopAlexandria|consecratedsuccessor's]] to election, Abp. Paul was elected as Deputy of the episcopatethrone.
In 19961968, during the interregnum period between the repose he was elected [[Archbishop]] of Pope Johannesburg and Patriarch Pretoria, and was [[Parthenios III (Koinidis) consecration of Alexandriaa bishop|Parthenios IIIconsecrated]] and his to the episcopate on [[Petros VII (Papapetrou) of Alexandria|successor'sNovember 29]] election, Abp. Paul was elected as Deputy of the throne1968.
On [[May 18]], 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa awarded Abp. Paul the Highest Medal of the Archangel at the Church of Ss Constantine and Helan Helen in Johannesburg. The medal is the highest award of the ancient Patriarchate.
In addition to his native Greek, His Eminence speaks Arabic, English, and French.
