In 1968, he was elected [[Archbishop]] of Johannesburg and Pretoria, and was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] to the episcopate on [[November 29]], 1968.
On [[May 18]], 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa awarded Abp. Paul the Highest Medal of the Archangel at the Church of Ss Constantine and Helan Helen in Johannesburg. The medal is the highest award of the ancient Patriarchate.
In addition to his native Greek, His Eminence speaks Arabic, English, and French.
