Currently, it's difficult to tell how to properly navigate this field. The title of the hierarch is the easy part. I think the link should go to one of the chronological lists of hierarchs for the see ... but when there isn't one, ''then'' it should go to the article for the see itself ... if there is one. The tricky part is ascertaining what articles are available to link to. Is there any way we can make this easier? —[[User:Magda|magda]] ([[User_talk:Magda|talk]]) 14:38, May 30, 2008 (UTC)

Locum tenens

Continuing the discussion... if I understand people correctly, we don't want to include non-ruling bishops in the line of succession. Referring to the List of Patriarchs of Constantinople, for instance, where there's a vacant see, we just skip that (1918-1921), and until the see is filled, leave an em-dash (—)? And if I understand the chronology, this is what happened:

 • Sylvester: Archbishop of Montréal (OCA), 1963-1981
 • Theodosius: locum tenens of Ottawa and Canada (OCA), 1981-1990
 • Seraphim: Archbishop of Ottawa (OCA), 1990-present

...and the succession boxes should cut out Theodosius, going straight from Sylvester to Seraphim. If I have that properly in my head, I think that sounds good. —magda (talk) 14:29, May 30, 2008 (UTC)

Title field

Currently, it's difficult to tell how to properly navigate this field. The title of the hierarch is the easy part. I think the link should go to one of the chronological lists of hierarchs for the see ... but when there isn't one, then it should go to the article for the see itself ... if there is one. The tricky part is ascertaining what articles are available to link to. Is there any way we can make this easier? —magda (talk) 14:38, May 30, 2008 (UTC)

It is sometimes difficult to tell when an additional note should be made when there are hierarchs occupying the same name of a see under different jurisdictions (OCA, Ecumenical Patriarchate, etc.). How can we provide guidance and clarity on that one? —magda (talk) 14:38, May 30, 2008 (UTC)

Multiple times in a see

Also, for hierarchs such as Paul the Confessor, who kept going back to the same see, I think we should have an example on this Style Manual page. —magda (talk) 14:38, May 30, 2008 (UTC)
