The abbot, Hieromonk [[Evagrios (Simonopetritiotis)|Evagrios]], was a monk for approximately 14 years on [[Mt Athos]] in the Monastery of Simonopetra.  He was ordained to the priesthood on the 7th of January, 2005 by Bishop Nikandros, the bishop responsible for Western Australia in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.  On the same day, the then-novice of the monastery, also from Mt Athos, was tonsured a reader.
