Metropolis of Gortyna and Megalopolis

The Metropolis of Gortyna and Megalopolis (Gr:Γορτυνία and Μεγαλοπολη) is under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The diocese is located in the Arcadian area of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece.

Metropolitans

Districts

  • Dimitsana (Gr. Δημητσάνα) there are a total of 32 parishes in this district.
  • Vytina (Gr. Βυτίνα) There are a total of 8 parishes in this district.
  • Valtetsi (Gr. Βαλτέτσι) There are a total of 7 parishes in this district.
  • Kontovazaina (Gr. Κοντοβάζαινα) There are a total of 8 parishes in this district.
  • Stavrodromio There are a total of 19 parishes in this district.
  • Velimachiou There are a total of 7 parishes in this district.
  • Megalopolis (Gr. Μεγαλοπολη) There are a total of parishes in this district.

Monasteries

There are four Male monasteries:

  1. The Holy Monastery of St. John the Forerunner, Steminitsa, Gortynias
  2. The Holy Monastery of the Birth of the Theotokos, Dimitsana
  3. The Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Karion, Megaloupolis
  4. The Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Valtesinikou

There are five female monasteries:

  1. The Holy Monastery of Kernitsis
  2. The Holy Monastery Ampelakiou
  3. The Holy Monastery of Panagia the Megalomata (Mpoura), Falaisia
  4. The Holy Monastery of Falaisias
  5. The Holy Monastery of Kleibokas, Gortynias
  6. The Holy Monastery of Makrysiou, Megaloupolis

There are five abandoned monasteries:

  1. The Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas, Valtesiniko
  2. The Holy Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring, Semnitstis
  3. The Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, Megalopoleos
  4. The Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos
  5. The Holy Monastery of St. George
