Nikolai Fedorovich Nemtsov was born on [[February 16]], 1949 in Rovenki, Lugansk Oblast in southern Ukraine. He studied at and graduated from the [[St. Petersburg Theological Academy|Leningrad Theological Academy]]. Nikolai was [[tonsure]]d a [[monk]] on [[January 5]], 1974 with the [[monasticism|monastic]] name Methodius, followed by his [[ordination]] as a [[deacon]] on [[January 7]], 1974.
