Megalynarion

A megalynarion is a short magnificatory hymn of a particular saint or feast. In Greek, the hymn typically ends with megalynomen ("we magnify"), thus giving the hymn its name.

The most common megalynarion is the one used during the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, just after the consecration of the Holy Gifts:

It is truly meet to bless thee, O Theotokos,

Ever blessed and most blameless and the Mother of our God,

More honourable than the Cherubim,

and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim,

who without corruption gave birth to God the Word,

true Theotokos, we magnify thee.

Megalynaria are used during other services, as well, particularly Orthros but also in Compline.
