The [[New Martyrs|New Martyr]] '''Manuel of Crete''' was a Christian of the eighteenth century who during his childhood was captured by [[Muslim]] Turks and compelled to convert to [[Islam]]. After growing to be an adult, he confessed his faith in Christ and returned to being a [[Introduction to Orthodox Christianity|Christian]]. For being an apostate to Islam, Manuel was beheaded on the island of Chios in the Aegean Sea in the year 1792. He is commemorated on [[March 15]].
