Makarios (Douloufakis) of Gortyna and Arcadia

Metr. Makarios began his ecclesiastical career with his [[tonsure]] as a [[reader]] by [[Archbishop]] Eugene (Psalidakis) of Crete. In 1985, he was tonsured a [[monk]] at the Monastery of Panagia Agkarathos by Abp. Timothy (Papoutsakis) of Crete, receiving the name Makarios. Later in 1985, Mk. Makarios was [[ordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]], followed in 1987 by his ordination as a [[priest]], again, by Abp. Timothy. In 1992, Fr. Makarios was raised to the dignity of "[[Archimandrite]] of the Ecumenical Throne" by Patriarch [[Bartholomew I (Archontonis) of Constantinople|Bartholomew]].
In 1990, Archim. Makarios was appointed [[Chancellor ]] by Abp. Timothy. In 2000, he was elected unanimously [[Bishop]] of Knossos by the [[Holy Synod]] of the Archdiocese of Crete. In 2001, Bp. Makarios was elected secretary of Holy Synod.
On [[May 26]], 2005, Bp. Makarios was elected by the Holy Synod as the Metropolitan of Gortyna and Arcadia.
