The list of the Hierarchs of the Diocese of Kazan begins with the first hierarch to govern the Diocese of Kazan, St. Gury (Rugotin), who was assigned to the new see in the year 1555. The diocese was formed almost immediately after the conquest of Kazan by Tsar Ivan IV (the Terrible) in 1555. During its existence the diocese has had different titles due to changing political and territorial responsibilities.
