| − | In 1945, Archbishop Jonah was born into an Orthodox family in Degeya, Uganda, the grandson of Father Obadiah Kabanda Basajakitalo. He completed his pre-college level education in Bulemezi and Kyaddondo, Uganda in 1964, before continuing his studies at the Ecclesiastical School of Crete. Completing his education in Crete, he studied Theology and Philosophy at the University of Athens, earning his degree in 1978.
