St. John the Cantor of Qinnesrin, also known as Mor Yuhanon Psaltes, is a 6th century father and saint of the Syriac Orthodox Church. St. John the Cantor is commemorated in the Syriac Orthodox Church on January 13.
Life
St. John was the third abbot of the Monastery of the Eagle's Nest ('Qinnesrin'). He is also known as 'the Calligrapher.' John was educated at the Qinnesrin Monastery and also ordained a priest there prior to becoming its abbot. During his life he was renowned for both his poetry and his piety. St. John fell asleep in the Lord around 600.
