Fr John Shehadie was appointed priest of the new church of St Nicholas, Punchbowl, and served there until his retirement in 1987.

''Yohanna'' is the English transliteration of the original Arabic name. The equivalent name in English is ''John''. ''Yohanna'' is often shortened to ''Hanna'', and among the Arabic-speaking community Fr John was usually known as ''Fr Hanna''.
