Joachim (Neradjoulis) of Chalcedon

Metr. Joachim was born in Constantinople. He attended the [[Theological School of Halki]], graduating in 1966. After receiving the name Joachim upon his [[monasticism|monastic]] [[tonsure]], he was [[ordination|ordained]] [[deacon]] and served in the Patriarchal Court as Deacon "in Order". Later he served as a Defterevon Deacon until his election as [[Auxiliary bishop|Auxiliary Bishop]] of Melitinis in 1973.
He was appointed [[Chancellor ]] of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on [[March 25]], 1974 and served in this capacity for eighteen years. During his tenure in the Chancery of the Patriarchate he served as Patriarchal [[Locum Tenens]] during the absence of the Ecumenical Patriarch. Expressing his organizational abilities, he contributed greatly in the renovation of the Patriarchal office and library. In 1990, he accompanied Patriarch Dimitrios on his visit to the United States.
On [[September 21]], 1996, Metr. Joachim presided at the [[enthronement]] ceremonies for His Eminence Archbishop [[Spyridon (Papageorge) of Chaldea|Spyridon (Papageorge)]] as primate of the [[Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America]] at the [[Cathedral]] of the [[Holy Trinity]] in New York City.
