James (Kostiuczuk) of Bialystok

His Most Reverend Excellence JAKUB (Kostiuczuk), Bishop of the Bialystok and Gdansk Diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Church was born on October 22, 1966 in Narew. He finished the Electric Technical School in Bialystok, after which he worked as an electrician. In 1987 he took the habit at the Monastery in Suprasl, became a novice and was received first ordaination (as a reader or subdeacon?). In the same year he began studies at the Moscow Theological Academy in Siergijew Posad (Zagorsk), where in 1992 received his Master's degree. He was ordained (to the diaconate?) by His Excellence Archbishop SAWA in 1989. In 1993 he took the Holy Orders. In 1995 he began working at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw. He was an assistant in the Chair of Dogmatic and Moral Theology. He has been fulfilling duties of spiritual protector of the Orthodox Fellowship of St. St. Cyril and Methodius since 1995. He was also a superior of the monastery of the Annunciation to Holy Lady Virgin Mary in Suprasl. On May 11, 1998 he was elevated to the episcopacy together with the title of Bishop of Suprasl. On behalf of the Holy Council of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church His Excellence Bishop JAKUB took spiritual care of orthodox youth. Since August 1998 he has been the spiritual protector of the Fellowship of Orthodox Youth in Poland. The Holy Council of Bishops through the edict of His Eminence Metropolitan SAWA (March 31, 1999) appointed him to the post of the Head of Bialystok-Gdansk Diocese on March 30, 1999. His installation in the Cathedral took place on May 22, 1999.
