In 1995, Fr. Mikhail was [[tonsure]]d a [[monk]] with the name Gennadius in honor of St. [[Gennadius of Kostroma]]. The same year Fr. Gennadius was appointed rector of the Kostroma Theological School and later rector of a [[parish]] church in Kostroma. In 1998 [[Igumen]] Gennadius was elevated to the rank of [[archimandrite]].
In April 2010, Fr. Gennadius was transferred to the Eparchy of Astana. A month later he was elected Bishop of Kaskelen by the [[Holy Synod]] of the Russian Orthodox Church.
