His Eminence Ephraim (Stenakis) of Hydra, Spetses and Aegina is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Hydra, Spetses and Aegina under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. He has served as the ruling hierarch of the metropolis since 2001.

Life

Evangelos Stenakis was born in 1948 in Kypselis of the island of Aegina in Greece, one of the Saronic Islands near Athens. He received his general education in Kypselis through the Church of St. Mary and attended the Corinth School from 1962 to 1968. He studied at the Theological School of the University of Athens from 1968 until his graduation in 1972. While attending the university he served during the summers as a member of Camp Metropolis Hydra, Spetses and Aegina.

In 1972, Evangelos became a novice at the Monastery Patristic Diakonia "The Holy Trinity" of Hydra. On December 30, 1973, he was tonsured a monk with the monastic name of Ephraim and entered the Holy Orders when he was ordained deacon by Metropolitan Ierotheou of Hydra. Dcn. Ephraim remained at the monastery and served at the Holy Virgin Cathedral of Hydra. In January 1979, he was ordained a priest and elevated to the dignity of archimandrite. He served as Chaplain-Preacher of the Holy Temple of Aegina and as head of the Dormition Cathedral of Hydra and the Virgin Mary Church of Aegina. From 1979, Father Ephraim served as Chancellor of the Metropolis of Hydra, Spetses, and Aegina. In 1985, he was appointed Abbot of the Monastery of the Holy Life-Giving Fountain in Poros.
