In 1931, Emmanuel broke with Aftimios and rejoined the Russian Metropolia, taking Aftimios's previous episcopal see of Brooklyn at the appointment of Metropolitan Platon (Rozhdestvensky) of New York.
In addition to his efforts organizing the churches of the Syrian mission, Bp. Emmanuel was the editor of the mission publication Al Kalimat (now The Word Magazine).
Bp. Emmanuel reposed on May 29, 1933, and the remaining Syrian parishes under the Russians were released to the Church of Antioch. His body was later moved to the Antiochian Village in Ligonier, Pennsylvania where he is buried in the same grave as St. Raphael of Brooklyn.
