His All-Holiness '''Dionysius IIof Constantinople''' , (Greek: Διονύσιος Β΄) was the Patriarch of Constantinople during from 1546 to 1556. He came under a serious confrontation with the middle Greek population of the sixteenth century. He served as Constantinople when his protege [[Metropolitan]] Metrophanes of Caesarea (Kaisareia) entered [[patriarchcommunion]] from 1546 to 1555with Pope Paul III of Rome.
The date of Dionysius' birth ==Life==Little is not knownof his early life. He Dionysius was born in the Galata area , now part of Constantinople and was [[consecration Istanbul, in the latter decades of a bishop|consecrated]] to the episcopate by Patriarch Theoliptosfifteenth century. He was esteemed to be well educated. Before he In 1516, Dionysius was elected to the patriarchal throne he was [[Metropolitan]] of [[Nicomedia]]. Dionysius was elected and [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] by [[Patriarch in 1546]] [[Theoleptus I of Constantinople|Theoleptus I]].
As the financial state of the patriarchate Dionysius was a constant issue, Dionysius sent Metrophanes, Metropolitan designated by Patriarch [[Jeremias I of CaesariaConstantinople|Jeremias I]] as his successor, to Venice and the West to raise funds. However, Metrophanes after Jeremias' death, he was intercepted by Dionysius Zannetinos, elected to the Latin Bishop [[see]] of Hersonisus Constantinople on Crete, who induced him to accept communion with the [[PopeApril 17]] of Rome, Paul III. This action created a storm of complaints not only 1546, supported by the people but against Metrophanes but Dionysius also that resulted in both the hopes of them being the [[deposition|deposedHoly Synod]]. HoweverDuring his Patriarchate, Dionysius was blamed for having raised the Ottoman Sultan's appointment fee (''peshtesh'') to three thousand Écus. He also was blamed for demolishing the great cross on the act roof of deposition against Dionysius the Pammakaristos Church that was never carried outordered by the Sultan. At the time, and he continued as patriarch until his deaththe [[church]] was the seat of the Patriarchate.
As the financial state of the patriarchate was a constant issue, Patr. Dionysius reposed in 1555 and was buried on sent Metropolitan Metrophanes of Caesarea to Venice to raise funds. There, however, Metrophanes followed the grounds advice of Dionysius Zannetinus, the Latin Bishop of Hersonissos on Crete, and entered into communion with [[MonasteryPope]] Paul III of Rome. This action created a storm of complaints not only against Metrophanes, but also against Patr. Dionysius, leading to their [[deposition]] . However, the condemnation of Dionysius, who enjoyed the support of Suleiman the Magnificent, was considered unfair and was never executed. So, Patr. Dionysius remained on the patriarchal throne until his death.The date of the death of Patr. Dionysius has been uncertain, although Venetian documents support a date in July 1556. He died in Constantinople and was buried in the Kamariotissa Monastery on the island of ChalkiHalki, one of the Prince islands.
