His Eminence Demetrios (Bekiaris) of Goumenissa, Axioupolis and Polykastron is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Goumenissa, Axioupolis and Polykastron under the administration of the Church of Greece. The Metropolis of Goumenissa, Axioupolis, and Polykastron is a metropolis in the New Lands of Greece, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [1]. He has been the ruling hierarch of the metropolis since 1991.

Life

Mavrogonatos Bekiaris was born in 1948 in the town of Loutraki near the city of Corinth, Greece. After completing his studies in theology Mavrogonatos entered the Holy Orders. He was ordained a deacon with the name Demetrios in 1975 and a priest in 1976. Before his election to the episcopate in 1989, Father Demetrios served as abbot at the Petrakis Monastery[2].

On October 15, 1989. Father Demetrios was consecrated the Metropolitan of Larisa and Tyrnavos. In 1991, Metr. Dimitrios was transferred to the see of the Metropolis of Goumenissa, Axioupolis and Polykastron.
