His Eminence Daniel was born as '''Ikuo Nushiro''' in Toyohashi, Aichi, in mid-Japan on [[September 5]], 1938. He graduated with a degree in French literature from Aichi University in 1962. He studied at [[Tokyo Orthodox Seminary (Tokyo, Japan)|Tokyo Orthodox Seminary]] from 1962 to 1965 and [[St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary (Crestwood, New York)|St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary]] from 1965 to 1969.
In November 1969, he was [[odinationordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]]. From 1970 he served as deacon at [[Holy Resurrection Cathedral (Tokyo, Japan)]]. In 1972 he was ordained a [[priest]] and appointed to the [[parish]] of Toyohashi, his birthplace.
He was married but later widowed. As a priest in his widowhood, he became a [[monk]] on [[August 20]], 1999, and since then known as Father Daniel. On [[November 14]] of the same year he was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] as [[bishop]] and appointed to the Diocese of Kyoto and Western Japan.
