==Life==His Eminence Daniel was born as '''Ikuo Nushiro''' Yoshihara in Toyohashi, Aichi, in mid-Japan on [[September 5]], 1938, into an Orthodox family. He was [[baptism|baptized]] with the name Jude. He graduated with a degree in French literature from Aichi University in 1962. He studied at [[Tokyo Orthodox Seminary (Tokyo, Japan)|Tokyo Orthodox Seminary]] from 1962 to 1965 and [[St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary (Crestwood, New York)|St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary]] from 1965 to 1969. During this time he married.
In November 1969, he was [[ordination|ordained]] a [[deacon]]. From 1970 , he served as deacon at [[Holy Resurrection Cathedral (Tokyo, Japan)|Holy Resurrection Cathedral]]in Kanda, Tokyo. In 1972 , he was ordained a [[priest]] and appointed to the [[parish]] of Toyohashi, his birthplace. Following the death of his wife, he adopted her last name (Nushiro) according to Japanese custom.

His Eminence is a devout student of [[Church Fathers]], especially Greek and Russian authorswriters. For believers he has written several brochures about their teachings in Japanese, as well as publications that focused on daily reading and theological issues.  In 2005, Metr. Daniel participated in blessed the Local Council founding of the Russian Orthodox Church that elected Metr. Kyrill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad the successor to the late Patr.
