Relics were found several hundred years after the church was built. In fact the Monastery was dedidated to the Transfiguration of Christ before it was rededicated to Saint Catherine.

The original date of the feast WAS on 25 November. It was the Russian church at the behest of Catherine the Great which changed the date to 24 November.

It was Emperor Maximinus who ruled (305-313), Emperor Maximian, who is named in error in the hagiography of St. Catherine, ruled 286-305. He retired at the same time as Emperor Diocletian.
