Callinicos (Demenopoulos) of Paronaxia

Nicholas Callinicos was born in 1959 in Athens, Greece, to parents who were from the island of Naxos of the Cyclades island group in the Aegean Sea. After he had completed his basic education, Nicholas entered the theology school at the University of Athens, from which he graduated after also completing graduate studies in canon law. He then served his military service obligation.
After returning to civil life, Nicholas was appointed professor of theology at the [[w:Arsakeio|Arsakeio School in Psychico]]. In 1986, he entered the [[Holy Orders]] when he was [[ordination|ordained]] [[deacon]] with the name Callinicos. He was [[ordained]] a [[priest]] in 1989 by [[Bishop]] Ierotheos of Hydra. Father Callinicos then served as a preacher and head of the youth of the Metropolises of [[Metropolis of Hydra, Spetses and Aegina|Hydra, Spetses and Aegina]], [[Metropolis of New Smyrna|New Smyrna]], and [[Metropolis of Paronaxia|Paronaxia]] as well as serving as [[vicar]] of Aegina. For ten years of this period Fr. Callinicos also served as the secretariat of the [[Holy Synod]].
On [[June 24]], 2008, Fr. Callinicos was elected to the [[episcopate]] by the Synod of Bishops. He was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Paronaxia on [[June 30]], 2008.
