==Life==
Little is known of Archbishop VassianBassian's life. Before his assignment to the [[see]] of Kazan, he was [[abbot]] at the Ipatiev Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Kostroma from 1558/1559 to 1566 and an [[archimandrite]] at the Moscow [[Novospassky Monastery (Moscow)|New Savior Monastery]] from 1571. In 1572, Archim. Vassian participated in a council that approved, with conditions, the marriage of Tsar Ivan IV (the Terrible) to [[w:Anna Koltovskaya|Anna Koltovskaya]], his fourth.
On [[February 14]], 1575, Archim. Vassian was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] the Archbishop of Kazan, a tenure that lasted only four months. He died on [[May 21]], 1575 and was buried at the north wall of Kazan's [[Annunciation Cathedral (Kazan Kremlin, Russia)|Annunciation Cathedral]].
